There are no two running trails that are the same. Some trails are hilly and some are flat and full of obstacles. Running rugged trails requires some additional skills so provided are two tips that will assist you in approaching safe and effective trail running:
(1)Choose your shoes carefully: Trail shoes offer greater protection hazards on the trails including a wide, reinforced toe box that helps keep your toes out of harm's way. I suggest you look for a shoe that offers enough protection and a good amount of agility without being too heavy.
(2)Running uphill: When you run uphill rely on your arm swing to maintain your momentum while also shortening your stride and backing off your pace. I suggest by taking smaller steps, you can maintain your cadence and rhythm without putting yourself into anaerobic state. If the trail gets too steep to run, don't feel bad about walking. There are many elite athletes who will walk steep hills of trail races. With respect to trail running it's much more efficient at times to walk than run. Good luck!
Are new running club starts on Saturday 0900 so see you there
