Hi
I was wondering if anyone could help me with a bit of advice
3 months ago I had a groin injury, got over that went back to training and got pain on the outside of my knee for the last 3 weeks, so no training again.
Now I have no pain but my knee is clicking? Is this normal?
Please help someone ļ

Hi Claire John the Physio from Moti Bristol here!
I am making the assumption that you don't remember actually damaging the knee but the pain was initially associated with running. So that now you are resting there is no pain but the clicking remains.
The most common cause (60%) of lateral knee problems are associated with the Ilio-tibial band (ITB). This structure that joins the pelvis(Ilium) to just below the knee (tibia) can rub on the outer side of the knee joint and cause an intense friction pain. As it moves over the joint it often clicks.
The solution starts with getting it assessed as is it is important to exclude other problems such a meniscal damage. Moti in house therapists offer free 15' "Open Clinics" in both Bristol and Cardiff. To book call the store or book online with a Physio or Osteopath.
Assuming an ITB diagnosis then this is likely to be helped by improving your core stability. You are unlikely to injure the knee further if you restart a gently progressive programme of walking and running, as long as this is pain free. If the pain returns then get the knee/shoes/gait assessed - this is a free service at Moti.
PS. - Groin injury - This may link in to the problem you are having with your knee? Do call in or tell me a bit more about your groin injury. eg. which side for groin and knee problems.
Bets for the New YeAR! PhysioJohn

thanks for your massage
yes its the same side as my groin injury, i have been building my inner core with the excise ball, also i have been Stretching my ITB, i have returned back to running very slowly with a walk / run program. my knee still has no pain but click's. i have also changed my trainers in the middle of the injury from cumulus 11 to nimbus 11, but both are Neutral trainers. but have recently gone back to my cumulus as i was not sure if it was a problem etc.

Hi again Claire
Thanks for the extra info.... Its sounds as though you are doing all the right things. Its interesting that the groin and knee problems are/were on the same side, as you may not be doing enough to solve the underlying inbalance.
I would be hesitant to give you the OK for full return to sport without a face2face consultation. If you are nearer to Cardiff book yourself in with the Physio Leon otherwise I would be happy to see you here on any Monday or Thursday. Best regards John 07795 203 513
